INSTALLATION PLAN

-Register art with ASS and FAST (if project is selected to burn)

Important notes:

- Survey for half circles (post arrangements) must be meticulously planned after DG platform is laid down.

-Choose correct angle of project with optimal sun exposure on art panels.

Survey:

- Use 2 different Soft Tape measures for measures of posts position and distance for crossbeams

-get extra materials (screws, lumber) for mistakes
- Survey to make sure acrylic side 8x8 panels (not doorway sides) is facing the optimal sun angle (see walkway sketch)

- Start survey with center of center base, then outer semi circle point
- (See survey sketch) Mark and flag all post points of entire project including two circles and pillars

Notes: 4'10" distance between posts
- Cross check measure distances to ensure accuracy (ie center corner point to outer half circle point, outer half circle point to any other marked post points)
- After cross checking measurements, double check post heights are in the right corresponding spot

- Use Auger 3' for highest placement posts and pillars

- collect playa into designated playa brut bin to fill holes later for Deinstall/LNT

- Make few inch trenches for solar power

Start bridge construction at entry way (see bridge sketch):

Important bridge notes:

- Special walkway construction to first bay is attached after after pillar placement, instead start with first bay to bay (post sets)

-Cross beams go under joists to connect posts, joists are level and hover above posts, crossbars are placed over the joists, plywood is placed over crossbars, then slats are fastened onto plywood

-Sds bolts for joists and crossbeams to posts are pre drilled

-Place posts in correct marked position, and connect the two bays together with crossbars

-Line joists up to connect to posts, level joists and use woodworking clamp, predrill, then put in 3 screws per side with 8 inch sds screws (with washers)

- Plywood and walkway planks are attached after posts, joists and cross beams attachments are completed.
- Do other inverse side of bridge

-install aircraft cable with turnbuckles for ground anchors (x12)

- Attach lotus floor (see lotus floor diagram)
- Attach constructed cube with metal frame work (see cube sketch)
- Attach message box to center (see message box sketch)
- Install pillars (see pillars sketch), attach lighting for pilars, attach singing bowls and incense holder
- Build walkway from pillars to first bay after pillars placement, bury into playa
- Attach circle sit spots (see circles sketch) and lighting for it
- Attach walkway panels with brackets onto walkway, attach diode strip lighting to panels
- Attach led lighting to bridge, cube and diodes on acrylic (see lighting sketch), hook up electronics (lotus flower and message box) to power master controller

-check for MOOP (daily), use metal rake and moop stick (wood particles and other materials lost in construction)

Heavy Equipment needed for construction:

DG platform placement

Auger for making post holes into the playa

Trench maker for wiring to power

Telehandler/reachfork

Spanset sling to remove posts

Install Ground anchors

DEINSTALLATION PLAN

Before burning bridge:

- Remove all non burning elements (cube acrylic panels and metal frame, electronics inside message box, walkway panels and brackets, acrylic panels on pillars),

- Remove lighting and wires to power

- Remove tops of circles and replace with plain top.

- Message box remains on bridge for burning, replace top container with plain top enclosure panel

-Get burn laminate

-Store non burning parts in moving truck

-prepare for burning bridge

BURN PLAN SUMMARY

All parts of the build that are non burning will be disassembled and loaded back in the moving truck

All lumber to be burned is untreated.

The burn shield with DG will be applied before project assembly.

The Fire Safety Liason/Burn Lead will get a burn laminate few hours before scheduled burn and will stay in close contact with FAST.

We will have a designated safety perimeter with fire extinguishers and first aid kit on site.

FAST will have the final say on scheduled burn day and if there may be fuel accelerators, cord wood loading, or if structural hobbling is needed.

A perimeter lead and overnight crew will be available to manage the site, making sure burning elements stay on the shield. The perimeter can be released when all tall posts of the bridge fall.

A LNT lead will start the clean up after large wood is not burning anymore.

A metal rake will be used to pick up all the remaining hardware.

We will have brut bins for wood debris moop.

Once deemed clean, Heavy Equipment will remove the DG platform, and then we will do line-sweep LNT method with the additional 50’ beyond the burn site.

BURN SAFETY PLAN:

The DG platform burn shield is designed to protect the playa surface, it must be inspected by Art Support Services before continuing the construction of the art project.
The Open Fire Safety Liaison is a career wild land firefighter (Taylor) and will give the Burn Lead, Perimeter Leads, Leave No Trace Lead safety training on fire, like how to steer clear of smoke, use of fire extinguishers, how to treat burn wounds and use first aid, and any other training missing we will ask the FAST art safety Liaison.
We will keep data sheets to keep track if flame accelerates or materials are used for the art work.
The Open fire safety Liaison will ensure that the artwork is constructed in accordance with the Open Fire Safety Plan approved by FAST, and that the Artwork will not be burned if there are identifiable safety hazards present.
Burn Lead will get a burn laminate and stay in close contact with FAST and oversees all the protocols leading up to the start and finish of burning the artwork is completed. Safety Procedures include keeping in close contact with FAST Art Safety Liaison and that they have the final say in the burning of the artwork.
The entire Fire safety crew will be wearing safety jackets.
A few hours before the artwork is scheduled to burn, the FAST Art Safety Liaison will determine if the weather permits the burning of artwork, the fire safety crew will meet a few hours before scheduled burn and begin making the perimeter.
The Burn lead is inward facing the fire to ensure all protocol is running smoothly during the burning of the artwork.
The Perimeter leads are outward facing and paying attention to the crowd. The entire fire crew will not smoke or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the burning process.
Starting at the artwork arm-to-arm, the perimeter leads will slowly walk outwards toward the eventual perimeter, their job is to keep foreign objects and participants from crossing the safety perimeter.
When the tallest posts fall from the bridge, the perimeter can be entered by participants. The fire safety crew will be sure that all burning materials stays burning on top of the DG platform. We will need additional perimeter leads so that working perimeter leads can take rest and bathroom breaks. There will be drinking water available for the fire safety crew.
We will have at least one dry chemical fire extinguishers located in the baffle box pre-event and during event. First aid kits contain gauze, burn bandages, wound disinfectants and burn cream for pre-event and during event (located in the baffle box with the fire exhinguisher) in the event that an burn injury occurs. These will be located before the burning of the arwork by the 9:00 and 3:00 burn layout corridors.
We can be recommended the fire extinguisher size and quantity for our project from the FAST for preevent, during and before burning of artwork.

-If something unexpected occurs and threatens safety, turn off/shut-down any sources/supplies/equipment that can cause further damage. Keep everyone out of the area. If the problem has not resolved, contact FAST.
-To evacuate from the area, stay calm and find the nearest safety exit/corridor.
-In the event of gaseous fuel leaks, turn off any supplies and keep people out of the area. If the problem has not resolved, contact FAST.
-In the event of liquid fuel spills, retrieve the safety data sheet and find what kind of fuel spilled, and make a note in order to ensure proper removal and treatment from accidental exposure for EMS.
-For unplanned fires, find the nearest fire dry chemical extinguisher. Pre-event and during event, the fire extinguishers are located in the baffle box by the art installation. For the burning of artwork, the fire extinguishers are located at the 9:00 and 3:00 designated safety corridor of the burn layout .
-For damage caused by wind, vehicle collision or other physical forces, turn off/shut-down any sources/supplies/equipment that can cause further damage. Keep everyone out of the area. If the problem has not resolved, contact FAST.
-In the event that someone's body or clothing catches on fire, STOP DROP ROLL.
-To treat injuries, use the First aid kit which contains gauze, jug of water, waterless soap, burn bandages, wound disinfectants and burn cream for pre-event and during event (located in the baffle box with the fire exhinguisher).
During the burning of artwork the First aid Kit will be located at the 9:00 and 3:00 designated safety corridor of the burn layout.
There will be waterless soap to remove fuel from hands, and water to flush eyes in case of emergency.
Treat first and second degree burns with water to cool for at least 15 minutes.
For severe burns or fuel exposure to eyes nose or mouth, the injured should be treated by Emergency Medical Services and have a copy of the relevant MSDS for a proper response to treat the injured.

After burning bridge:
